It is not easy to maintain your home once you have become a homeowner. There are so many things that go into keeping your home’s interior and exterior that even a thorough checklist might not cover everything. However, it is essential to ensure that you take good care of your house and its systems and appliances with easy clean blinds. Maintaining a home well can reduce the need for repairs and the overall cost of maintaining the house. However, it is more than simply keeping it clean and maintaining the yard. These five tasks are the most neglected in home maintenance. Be sure to keep them in mind.
Flush the Water Heater
Flushing the water heater is one of the most neglected household chores. It t can extend the life of your water heater and should be done once a year. If flushing is not done regularly, mineral deposits can build up in the tank. It can cause the water to bubble and produce noises such as rumbling, banging, or rattling. This layer of sediment makes it difficult to flush your water heater. Over time, you will have to replace your water heater because the layer of sediment in the tank will eventually lead to rust.
Clean the Dryer Vent Duct
One of the leading causes of house fires is the lining of the dryer vents. Therefore, you should clean your dryer vents every six months. Although a clogged vent does not cause a fire, it can slow down drying time and cause a strange smell in your home. Cleaning very long exhaust ducts, incredibly complex or have many bends, may require a professional. You can clean the ducts if they run directly in front of the connection to the dryer. You can remove the vent from the dryer and vacuum out the lint. Also, check the flue coming out of the house. Small animals, such as birds, can nest in the opening on the outside of the duct.
Inspect the Roof
Another task you should perform in maintaining your home is inspecting your roof. Many homeowners do this while they own their homes, mainly cleaning the gutters. Your roof is your home’s first line of defense against the elements. If it is damaged, moisture can enter your home. It can lead to mold, rot, or other problems that may not be obvious until severe damage has occurred. You can inspect your roof yourself. Look for broken or missing shingles and black sand in the gutters. These are signs that your asphalt shingles need to be replaced. Like dry rot or rust on your flashings, algae growth on your shingles can also be a sign that they need to be replaced.
Clean the Window Weep Holes
Do you know what septic tanks are? If not, you probably haven’t thought to include them in your home maintenance routine. You will see tiny holes running along the bottom edge of your window frame. Their purpose is to allow water to drain from the inner channel of the window frame. These holes are an ideal nesting place for insects, as dirt and other debris can collect there. Use a bent paper clip to clean the soaking holes. It should be clean every six months. To check if they are clean, spray some water on the outside of your window. Then see if the water comes out of the holes. If it doesn’t, open the windows and check to see if water is getting into the tracks.
Dust the Fridge Condenser Coils
Your home maintenance includes all major appliances, especially your refrigerator. Your refrigerator’s condenser coils work by extracting heat from the refrigerant.
